How do PHEVs heat the interior?

Do modern PHEVs use the ICE motor to heat the cabin?

Most modern PHEVs will heat the cabin using whatever energy supply is being used to power the vehicle at the time, whether this is the drive battery or the internal combustion engine, but typically extended running in EV mode and the heater on wlil cause the engine to kick in earlier.

Are plug in hybrids worth having? We live in a village and frequently do 20 to 30 miles to access facilities, so would need regular charging unless we just revert to the petrol engine.
If I buy a plug in hybrid worth £46,000, how do I stand with road tax?
I haven't seen any discussion on maintenance costs for PHEV. Presumably, it must be quite expensive since you are maintaining an EV plus an ICE?
