How can I speed up my medical licence application with the DVLA?

I have applied to renew my medical driving licence with the DVLA over three months ago and they are still processing it with no date for completion.

I have to drive for work and need my licence for ID purposes of which it is now expired.

Is there any way of speeding things up as the DVLA are being useless?
