Haldex 4WD oil change intervals - is mileage or age more important?

I have an 11 year old Skoda Yeti 4wd with 78,000 miles on the clock. The last Haldex oil change was three years ago at 59,000 miles. I was advised to change the oil either at three years or 30,000 miles, but as you can see I am a long way off the mileage suggestion. Which is more important - the mileage or time elapsed?

I would hope that I can postpone the cost for at least six months or so, by which time I will have done say 23,000/24,000 miles.

My local garage can't do this and last time I incurred the higher labour cost of the main dealer. Enquiring on the net for this work, just leads me back to VW/Audi dealers. Can you suggest other, possibly cheaper places to get this done?

Usually you'd be within the tolerances here as intervals are often pessimistic for worst cases. However, the Haldex system is a particularly contentious one - specialists actually say the VW Group's intervals are too long and Haldex oil changes should be done every 20,000 miles. Of course many owners ignore this and the system is fine, but a failure is still possible and can play on the mind.

Search online for a local VW Group specialist independent garage - there are many around and all will have plenty of experience with Haldex oil changes, and should be cheaper than a dealer. See: good-garage-guide.honestjohn.co.uk/
