There's water leaking onto the rear door sills on both sides of my car. Where could the leak be?

I cleaned my 2015 Volkswagen Golf at the weekend and discovered water in the middle of the rear door sills on both sides of the car. I haven't noticed it before. I used a garden hose rather than a pressure washer. The water doesn't seem to be running down the inner door seals but it appears to be coming from the bottom of each door. It's odd that it's happened on both sides of the car. Is it a design fault or something that happens with age? The car has done 42,000 miles and serviced from new by VW. Regards.

I'd check the door drain holes are clear (which they should be) and, if so, would suspect that the door speaker seals are leaking and allowing water onto the door sills.
