Can I use a non-UK licence to drive a car in the UK?

My daughter lives and works in Dubai and has allowed her UK driving licence to lapse. Can she legally use her UAE driving licence to drive, with permission, my wife's car without invalidating her insurance? Would she also be able to book and use hire cars?

Your daughter would need a UK license to drive your wife's car on your wife's insurance. If your daughter was renting or hiring a car, she would need to check with the rental company. As it is not an EU license, she may struggle.
