How can I retain the registration of my vehicle if it is still on the vehicle?

How can I retain the registration of my vehicle if it is still on the vehicle (in case it is written off)? The DVLA website only seems to deal with transfers or removals.

You can't. You have to transfer it to a retention certificate before the vehicle is written off or you lose the right to lease that registration: www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbe...s / Specifically: www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbe...f /
