Dacia plans four new EVs by 2030

  • Dacia explains plans to 2030
  • Four new EVs on the way, including sub-£16k city car
  • New Sandero coming too
  • Two thirds of sales to be electrified

Dacia has laid out its plans for the rest of this decade, with four new electric cars on the way before 2030 and an expansion into larger cars and more electrified models.

The company plans to introduce the first of these new electric vehicles (EVs) this year, a city car with a target price of less than €18,000 (around £15,500). Also revealed is the new Dacia Striker, which marks a new segment for the Renault-owned Romanian company, and a new generation of the Dacia Sandero with various different power options.

Dacia currently has just one electric vehicle – the Dacia Spring (pictured above). The new model is likely to share its mechanical underpinnings with the forthcoming new Renault Twingo, which would lilkely mean an electric range of around 160 miles. If the sub-£16k price can be achieved, the new Dacia city car would be one of the cheapest EVs available.

One of the other three EVs will be an electric version of the new Sandero, which Dacia says will have multiple power options. It will be built on Renault's CMF-B electric car platform, which has been designed to accept petrol, hybrid and electric power.

Details of the other two EVs have not been confirmed. Expect more Dacia hybrids, too – the company wants two thirds of its sales to be electrified by 2030. Currently, a quarter of Dacias have some kind of electric assistance.

What are the best vehicles to use in the snow in the UK?
For driving in the snow, the main priority should be the tyres. All-wheel drive traction might help a bit, but generally, we'd expect a two-wheel drive car on winter tyres to provide superior traction to an AWD car wearing summer tyres, and perhaps most importantly, provide significantly better braking performance to any car on summer tyres. Of course, AWD and winters will be even better in terms of traction. Given how infrequently it snows in the UK, we wouldn't recommend buying a car specifically for that purpose, but should it be an important factor for you, the car we'd steer you towards would depend on your other wants and needs. That being said, something like a Dacia Duster (on winter tyres, of course) could prove to be a useful car in icy and snowy conditions, whether it's two or four-wheel drive.
