Volkswagen teases mk9 Golf
- First Mk9 Golf image revealed to VW workers
- Sillhouette shows familiar hatchback profile
- New Golf expected to be petrol, hybrid and electric
- Production car expected in 2028
Volkswagen has revealed the first teaser image of the new ninth generation Golf. Unveiled to workers at the company's Wolfsburg factory, the silhouette image shows the profile of the new Volkswagen Golf, which is expected to go into production in 2028.
The image shows a familiar hatchback shape, albeit with a few notable differences to the current VW Golf, such as a more upright front end, prominent roof spoiler and wheel arches that look particularly flared. While no more design details are confirmed, they're likely to follow the style of the ID.Every1, ID.Polo and ID.Cross, as well as nods to previous model Golfs.
The new Golf will replace the similarly sized ID.3 in the Volkswagen line-up, with combustion, hybrid and full-electric models all appearing under the same name. That said, the electric version could still sport the ID.Golf name.
We'll update this article with more information about the next Volkswagen Golf once it becomes available.
2028 Volkswagen Golf price and release date
There's no firm release date for the new Volkswagen Golf yet, but production is expected to start in 2028. Prices are likely to mirror the approach of the current Golf, albeit adjusted for inflation. Expect the range to start somewhere around the £30,000 to £35,000 mark.
