Volkswagen shows off disguised new small EV: the ID.Cross

  • Disguised version of new small EV
  • Three power levels, two battery options
  • Starting price of around £24,000
  • Launching in the autumn

Volkswagen has shown off a disguised version of its forthcoming new small electric SUV, the ID.Cross. Due to launch in the autumn, the car has been testing on the streets of Amsterdam in the Netherlands; VW says it will launch in the European market at a price of around 28,000 Euros, which is around £24,000.

We'll need to wait to see the ID.Cross in all its official glory (although undisguised models have been spotted in the wild), but we can get a pretty good idea of its looks from these pictures. It shares its mechanical underpinnings with other Volkswagen Group cars including the Skoda Epiq and the Cupra Raval and is a similar size to the T-Cross – hence the name.

Interior pics – also disguised – have shown a large central infotainment screen and a squared off steering wheel.

When it goes on sale later this year, the ID.Cross will be a rival for its related stablemats, such as the Epiq and the Raval, as well as other small electric cars like the Ford Puma Gen-E and Renault 4 E-Tech

Can I fit run flat tyres to my Volkswagen ID.3?

Can I fit run flats to my 2023 VW ID3 Pro?
Technically it would be possible to fit run flat tyres to your Volkswagen, but to do so may require some compromises in terms of the type of tyre you select and your vehicle's performance. Depending on the exact specification of your ID.3 it could be fitted with 18, 19 or 20 inch wheels, but from the factory it is fitted with tyres that have a speed rating of T, which is a maximum of 118mph reflecting its limited top speed as an electric vehicle. Broadly speaking, run flat tyres tend to come in high performance specification where handling, grip and high speed capability are paramount, whereas the tyres currently fitted to your car are designed for low rolling resistance, and are relatively narrow for their size. To fit run flats to your car would require a significant change in tyre size, which would potentially change the ride quality, handling characteristics and range of your vehicle, so we would only advise doing so after consulting with a reputable tyre fitter to find a suitable size for your vehicle.
