BYD unveils revamped Atto 3 Evo: new 800V platform, 317-mile range and huge 101-litre frunk

  • BYD Atto 3 gets a range of updates
  • Boot grows to 490 litres, with new 101-litre "frunk"
  • More power, faster charging, greater range
  • All-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive available

BYD has given its BYD Atto 3 a comprehensive overhaul with a new platform that allow new features, more power, a greater range. And a new name – the BYD Atto 3 Evo.

The list of upgrades is substantial, starting with the platform upon which it's built. The new 800-volt platform – called E-Platform 3.0 – allows the introduction of a bigger 74.8kWh battery that allows rapid DC charging at up to 220kW (double the previous car), which means a 10% to 80% charge in 25 minutes at a suitable charger.

There's also the option of single or dual motors, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Both are powerful – the entry-level single-motor model has 313PS for a 5.5-second 0-62mph time, while the top-spec, all-wheel-drive version has 449PS and a 3.9-second sprint to 62mph.

As well as the performance improvements, the new BYD Atto gets a boot upgrade with 50 litres extra capacity, and a huge new 101-litre "frunk" under the bonnet.
