Hyundai teases new Ioniq 3

  • Ioniq 3 name badge confirmed
  • Electric hatchback based on Concept Three show car
  • Will be unveiled in full in April

Hyundai has confirmed the imminent arrival of the latest Ioniq model – an electric hatchback called the Ioniq 3.

That's all we know so far about the production car, but we know it'll be heavily based on the Hyundai Concept Three (pictured below) that was revealed last year. That showed us a sporty-looking hatchback that has its own look compared to other Hyundai EVs, but shares the same pixel-like lighting theme we've seen on the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 and the Ioniq 9.

Assuming the Concept Three is as close to the production Ioniq 3 as we think it will be, we can expect hot-hatch styling, a ducktail spoiler and a size of car close to the Kia EV3, the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Cupra Born, all of which will be likely rivals.

2026 Hyundai Ioniq 3 price and release date

We'll see the Hyundai Ioniq 3 revealed in full in April 2026, and UK specifications and prices should follow soon afterwards. We're expecting as starting point between £25,000 and £30,000 – the Hyundai Inster starts at around £23,500.

2025 Hyundai Concept Three

Very little information about the production Ioniq 3 has yet been released, so pretty much everything is based off the Concept Three car you see here. Much of the concept car's basic design is likely to be retained, minus the showy extras like the green alloys and lurid tinted glass. So, expect a low, sporty stance with pixel lighting both front and back, with extra-slim headlights and a full-width rear lightbar, as well as the duckbill spoiler.

The futuristic interior of the Concept Three isn't likely to make it to production – we'll have to wait and see what the Ioniq 3 makes of it.

2026 Hyundai Ioniq 3 engines, performance and technology

Expect the Ioniq 3 to use the much of the same power components as the Kia EV3, with which it shares numerous mechanical bits. That would suggest two batteries – 86kWh and 81kWh – with 300-odd miles of range on the entry-level model and around 400 miles on the larger unit. We can also expect a high-performance Ioniq 3 N to follow down the line.
