First shots of the 2026 Smart #2 revealed

  • Spiritual successor to the Smart ForTwo
  • All-electric city car
  • Now in final stages of development
  • Expected end of 2026

This is our first look at the spiritual successor to the, dare we say it, iconic Smart ForTwo. Named the Smart #2, it's expected to launch towards the end of 2026.

An all-electric two-seat city car, the Smart #2 is, confusingly, smaller than the Smart #1 and will be the most compact and affordable Smart in the range. The photos you see here were released by Smart and show test mules as the car heads towards production.

The Smart #2 is a joint development between Smart's parent companies, Geely and Mercedes-Benz. Not much information has yet been released, but the pictures confirm that it very much echoes the ethos of its predecessor, although Smart says it' will sport a fresh identity. It also has a new platform – what Smart calls its Electric Compact Architecture, or ECA.

We'll find out more closer to the release date and see how it compares to potential rivals like the forthcoming new Renault Twingo, the BYD Dolphin Surf, the Dacia Spring and more.

2026 Smart #2 price and release date

2027 Smart #2

All we know so far is that the Smart #2 will be revealed in full towards the end of 2026. No prices have been announced yet, although to be competitive in the city-car market, we'd expect a starting price below £25,000.
