Seven-seat Chery Tiggo 9 hybrid starts at £43,105

Chinese brand Chery has opened the order books for its new Tiggo 9 CSH, a seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV that starts at just over £43,000.

Available initially in just one high-spec trim, the Tiggo 9 pushes out 428PS from its CSH (Chery Super Hybrid) powertrain, which promises a very impressive electric-only range of up to 91 miles. It'll be the flagship car in Chery's burgeoning UK line-up, which already includes the Tiggo 7 and the Tiggo 8.

The new car follows its stablemates closely when it comes to looks (but, well, bigger), and it could prove a tempting cut-price alternative for those considering cars like the Kia Sorento, the Hyundai Sante Fe, the Volkswagen Tayron, and the Peugeot 5008, as well as more expensive premium options like the Audi Q7 and the BMW X5.

You can order a new Chery Tiggo 9 CSH right now, with the first deliveries expected in December. There's just one trim at the moment, called the Summit, and it costs from £43,105, which undercuts most rivals of a similar spec.

The Chery Tiggo 9 continues the design theme established by the smaller Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8, with a large front grille and signature LED running lights below slim headlights. There's a full-width light bar at the back, and it rides on 20-inch alloy wheels. Five paint colours are available – Arctic White Mist, Eclipse Black, Forest Green, Slate Grey and Nightfall Ice Grey.

Inside, there's a large 15.6-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, as well as a head-up display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is a 50W cooled wireless phone charger and a 14-speaker Sony sound system.

Other standard features include heated and ventilated seats front and back, with eco-leather upholstery. The driver's seat adjusts electrically in 12 different ways and comes with a massage function. Dual-zone air-conditioning, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof and interior ambient lighting are also bundled in.

The seven seats are across three rows, with an electrically sliding and recliining second row. The boot space, with the third row of seats folded, measures a whopping 819 litres, expandable to 2021 litres if you also fold down the second row. However, with all seats in place the boot is a rather small 143 litres.

Safety features include a Pet Mode that keeps the interior temperature steady if pets are left briefly inside the car, a 540-degree camera system, and 19 advanced driver assistance systems as standard, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spt detection and rear cross-traffic alert and braking.

2026 Chery Tiggo 9 electric motor, performance, and range

The Tiggo 9's plug-in hybrid all-wheel-drive powertrain consists of a 1.5-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a three-spec Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, along with a 34.46kWh battery. The combined system delivers 428PS and 480Nm of torque, which translates to a rather rapid 0-62mph acceleration time of just 5.4 seconds.

The large battery promises a very impressive electric-only range of up to 91 miles, which makes it one of the furthest-roaming PHEVs on the market when it comes to zero-emission capability. The battery also supports DC rapid charging at up to 71kW, which means you can top it up from 30% to 80% capacity in around 18 minutes with a suitable charger. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability is also included, letting you charge appliances using the car's battery through a standard three-pin plug.
