Tesla Cybertruck 2024: Prices, specs and release date

  • New Tesla Cybertruck sees boss Elon Musk’s dream become reality
  • All-electric pickup combines electrifying performance with plentiful practicality
  • High-tech interior seats five in comfort
  • Likely to cost from £65,000 – but may not be sold in the UK

The new Tesla Cybertruck is a dramatic new electric pickup that sees Elon Musk’s dream for a futuristic but practical truck become reality.

Now on sale in the US, the long-delayed production of the new Tesla Cybertruck aims to finally start tackling a years-long waiting list.

One of the most anticipated new vehicles in years, the new Tesla Cybertruck is almost without rival – but will directly challenge the electric version of America’s best-selling vehicle, the Ford F-150 Lightning.

The new Tesla Cybertruck is a much larger and heavier vehicle than commonplace UK pickups such as the Ford Ranger, the popular Toyota Hilux and the Volkswagen Amarok. As such, it may not actually be sold here – but so remarkable is it, we think it’s still worth your attention…

2024 Tesla Cybertruck prices and release date

The new Tesla Cybertruck is on sale in the US in two high-end guises. Buyers can choose from either an all-wheel drive version with two electric motors, or a tri-motor high-performance version called Cyberbeast.

The new Telsa Cybertruck all-wheel drive costs from $79,990 in America. That’s around £63,500 in the UK. The new Tesla Cyberbeast costs from $99,990, or around £79,500.

Elon Musk has promised a more affordable version of the Tesla Cybertruck, with a single-motor rear-wheel drive layout. This could cost from around $60,000, or £50,000. It is due to arrive in 2025.

While deliveries are now underway in America, it remains to be seen whether the new Tesla Cybertruck will be released in Europe and the UK. There are question marks around whether EU safety legislation would clear its radical design for sale.

2024 Tesla Cybertruck styling, interior and technology

The new Tesla Cybertruck is completely unique. A vision of the future, a truck for Mars, the pickup reinterpretation of a DeLorean – whatever it is, there’s certainly nothing else quite like it.

Indeed, the ultra-sharp angles of the new Tesla Cybertruck and its massive flush-fit windscreen with single wiper, may result in it not meeting EU safety regulations – although they do also contribute to an incredibly slippery 0.34 Cd aerodynamic drag factor.

Famously, the new Tesla Cybertruck is built from a new and ultra-hard stainless steel alloy developed by Tesla. It is unpainted, once again resembling the classic DeLorean and forms a super-stiff exoskeleton.

Tesla says it delivers more torsional stiffness than a McLaren P1, while also making the exterior dent-proof. Armoured glass, capable of withstanding a baseball at 70mph, is also available.

The pickup rear deck of the new Tesla Cybertruck is called the ‘vault’. It can take loads nearly two metres long, with a payload of 1134kg. The deck is covered and there’s additional stowage within the exoskeleton.

Add in a front ‘frunk’ and the Tesla Cybertruck has a vast total stowage space of 3423 litres – as you’d hope for a vehicle measuring almost 5.7 metres long and 2.2 metres wide.

As with other models such as the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y, the new Tesla Cybertruck has a minimalist appearance inside. The centrepiece is an 18.5-inch ‘infinity’ touchscreen and passengers in the rear get an additional 9.4-inch touchscreen.

The new Telsa Cybertruck has ambient lighting and a massive panoramic glass roof while optional acoustic glass means it is very refined inside. A 15-speaker stereo delivering ‘recording studio sound’ will make the most of this.

The new Tesla Cybertruck also has what’s described as a hospital-grade HEPA filter that removes up to 99.7% of airborne particulates.

2024 Tesla Cybertruck electric motors, performance and range

The new Telsa Cybertruck was launched with a dramatic video showing it out-accelerating a Porsche 911. While towing a Porsche 911... For a pickup truck, performance is remarkable.

Even the new Tesla Cybertruck all-wheel drive delivers 600PS from its two electric motors. This gives 0-60mph performance in just 4.1 seconds.

The new Tesla Cyberpunk is even more potent, with almost 850PS giving starting 0-60mph performance in just 2.6 seconds.

As is always the case for the American firm, battery sizes for the new Tesla Cybertruck are not quoted. However, the firm does sale the all-wheel drive version has a 340-mile range, while the new Telsa Cyberpunk has a 320-mile range.

Using a 250kW Tesla Supercharger DC rapid charger, 128 miles’ recharge range will be delivered in 15 minutes. The new Tesla Cybertruck can also use the hyper-fast 1000kW chargers which the new Tesla Semi truck will also be able to use.

The new Tesla Cybertruck rear-wheel drive should do 0-60mph in around 6.5 seconds, while its smaller and more affordable battery will give a range of around 250 miles.

It gets all-round adaptative air suspension, while steer-by-wire tech gives four-wheel steering to improve manoeuverability.

Will the Tesla Cybertruck be sold in the UK?

The Tesla Cybertruck is unlikely to be sold in the UK and Europe. It is too heavy to be driven on a regular driving licence, and the bodywork would require modifications to pass EU safety regulations.

How big is the new Tesla Cybertruck?

At almost 5.7 metres long and 2.2 metres wide, the new Tesla Cybertruck is significantly larger than even a large luxury SUV such as the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

How strong is the new Tesla Cybertruck’s bodywork?

The ultra-hard stainless steel exterior of the new Tesla Cybertruck is understood to be bulletproof, and certainly robust enough to shrug off people kicking it or flinging supermarket trolleys at it. What impact this would have on EU pedestrian safety regulations is not yet understood…
