New 192PS SEAT Ibiza Cupra priced from £18,100

Published 11 March 2016

SEAT has announced an £18,100 start price for the new Ibiza Cupra, which now uses the same 192PS 1.8-litre petrol engine fitted to the Volkswagen Polo GTI. Transmission is a six speed manual, replacing the DSG-only transmission and 1.4-litre twin-charged engine in the outgoing model.

Not only is the 1.8-litre engine more powerful than the old 1.4, it also produces 70Nm more torque, peaking at 320Nm from 1450-4250rpm. 0-62mph takes 6.7 seconds and top speed is 146mph, yet fuel economy is reasonable at 45.6mpg.

17-inch alloy wheels are fitted as standard, plus there are various black exterior details to set the Cupra apart from other Ibiza variants, including a rear diffuser with central exhaust. The standard, free paint colour is red, but other colours are available at additional cost.

Standard equipment includes auto lights, auto wipers, a five-inch touchscreen with DAB and Bluetooth, an electronic front differential, Cupra sports seats, climate control and cruise control. Safety features include a tiredness recognition system and hill hold assist.

Opting for the Cupra Black variant costs an additional £800 and adds black alloy wheels with red brake calipers, along with navigation and a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen. Options include Alcantara upholstery for an additional £400, a panoramic glass roof for £495 and a premium audio system for £155.
