New 77mpg Passat BlueMotion goes on sale

Published 16 June 2015

The BlueMotion version of the new Volkswagen Passat is now on sale. Available as a saloon or estate, both bodystyles return a claimed 76.3mpg with CO2 emissions of 95g/km meaning no annual VED to pay. Prices start at £23,200 for the saloon and £24,750 for the estate.

The Passat BlueMotion uses a modified version of the 1.6 TDI engine in the entry-level Passat. It has the same 120PS and 250Nm of torque but is fitted with AdBlue emissions control equipment.

Based on the entry-level S model, the BlueMotion has the 6.5-inch Composition Media infotainment system, 17-inch ‘Soho’ alloy wheels, sports suspension lowered by 15 mm, special BlueMotion front and rear bumpers plus chrome grille highlights.

It comes with a six-speed manual gearbox only, but despite being an eco model, the BlueMotion is actually quicker than the standard 1.6 TDI with a 0-62mph time of 10.8 seconds for the saloon and 11.0 seconds for the estate.
