Mazda introduces 25th Anniversary Edition MX-5

Published 18 June 2014

Mazda has introduced a limited run of 750 MX-5s to celebrate 25 years of the two-seater sports car. The MX-5 Roadster Coupe 25th Anniversary Edition arrives in show rooms from August and is expected to cost around £23,000. It’s powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 160PS.

Over a standard MX-5 RC the Anniversary Edition gains a unique Soul Red metallic paint finish with contrasting black door mirrors and roof, plus 17-inch gunmetal grey alloy wheels, leather upholstery, hand painted dark red dashboard panel and a 6.1-inch navigation system.

This includes European mapping, Bluetooth, USB connectivity and an integrated DVD player. Numbered badging also appears to identify the car as an Anniversary Edition model. Mazda is to produce 1000 25thAnniversary Editions of which 750 will come to the UK, such is Britain’s fondness for open-topped cars.

The car will make its UK debut at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where final pricing will be announced – but expect expect prices to be slightly above those for the current top-trim 2.0-litre Venture model, which costs £22,595.
