Next Ford Focus Estate shown

The next Ford Focus Estate has been displayed at the Geneva motorshow to complete the line-up for Ford's new small car range.

With identical front end styling to the hatch that was first shown at the Detroit motor show, the Estate has an upright rear tailgate to make the most of its load space. Ford has yet to reveal how much cargo room the new Estate will offer, but it will come with full-length roof rails and the option of electric opening and closing.

Inside, the 60/40 split and fold rear seats will drop to create a completely flat load floor, which Ford says will be the biggest in its class. This is an important consideration as Ford reckons the new Estate will account for 10% of UK sales and around a third of all Focus sales worldwide.

The Focus will use the same engine range as the C-Max compact MPV also revealed at the Geneva show. Both will be offered with Ford's recently introduced EcoBoost small capacity turbo petrol engines and revised Duratorq turbodiesels. The Focus may also be available with Ford's updated Powershift dual-clutch gearbox, while a high performance RS version of the three-door Focus hatch has been confirmed for 2012, though Ford won't be drawn on what engine the new RS will use.

Sales of the next generation Focus in three- and five-door hatch and Estate models begins early in 2011 across the whole of Europe. The next Focus will then be launched in the USA later in 2011.
