❓ Buying an American import in the UK: Your Questions Answered
Is the Cadillac Escalade available in right-hand drive (RHD) in the UK?
No. All models offered by GM Speciality Vehicles (GMSV), including the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon, and Chevrolet Silverado, are Left-Hand Drive (LHD) only. While these vehicles are fully UK-homologated and legal for road use, General Motors does not currently produce a right-hand drive version for the UK market.
Is it legal to drive a left-hand drive Cadillac in the UK?
Yes, it is perfectly legal. However, you should be aware of a few practicalities:
- Visibility: Overtaking on single-carriageway roads is more challenging as your view of oncoming traffic is restricted.
- Tolls & car parks: You will be on the wrong side for ticket machines and toll booths if you don't have a passenger.
- Insurance: Some insurers charge a small premium for LHD vehicles, though the official nature of the GMSV launch should help keep costs competitive.
Does the Cadillac Escalade come with a UK warranty?
Yes. Unlike grey market imports, vehicles purchased through GMSV or Clive Sutton come with a three-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and nationwide servicing. This provides the same level of protection you would expect from a UK-market car.
