The £150k Cadillac Escalade hits the UK: GM Speciality Vehicles official launch

Super-size Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Silverado SUVs and pickups are now on sale in the UK – complete with full warranty, finance and nationwide servicing.

The fully-homologated models are offered by the new GM Speciality Vehicles division, with London’s Clive Sutton set to be its first dealer. They can also be ordered through GMSV.uk

All models will be left-hand drive.

Models open for ordering include the famous Cadillac Escalade (pictured above) which is priced from £149,950 for a 6.2-litre V8 version producing 420PS (and returning 17mpg).

The 682PS Cadillac Escalade-V, with a supercharged 6.2-litre V8, does 14mpg and costs from £199,950.

❓ Buying an American import in the UK: Your Questions Answered

Is the Cadillac Escalade available in right-hand drive (RHD) in the UK?

No. All models offered by GM Speciality Vehicles (GMSV), including the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon, and Chevrolet Silverado, are Left-Hand Drive (LHD) only. While these vehicles are fully UK-homologated and legal for road use, General Motors does not currently produce a right-hand drive version for the UK market.

Is it legal to drive a left-hand drive Cadillac in the UK?

Yes, it is perfectly legal. However, you should be aware of a few practicalities:

  • Visibility: Overtaking on single-carriageway roads is more challenging as your view of oncoming traffic is restricted.
  • Tolls & car parks: You will be on the wrong side for ticket machines and toll booths if you don't have a passenger.
  • Insurance: Some insurers charge a small premium for LHD vehicles, though the official nature of the GMSV launch should help keep costs competitive.

Does the Cadillac Escalade come with a UK warranty?

Yes. Unlike grey market imports, vehicles purchased through GMSV or Clive Sutton come with a three-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and nationwide servicing. This provides the same level of protection you would expect from a UK-market car.

Will the new MoT regulations mean problems for heavier cars?

Todays MoT update article states garage vehicle lifts will be required to have a minimum s.w.l. of two tonnes. My mates Range Rover Sport hybrid is more than this, like 2.8 tonnes. The Range Rover site confirms they are, so will these cars and others like them need to go to specific MoT sites?
While a mandated minimum lifting capacity of two tonnes is new in terms of MoT regulations, the reality is that garages that want to safely accommodate more modern vehicles have had to keep pace with their ever-escalating weight. Older vehicle lifts had a reduced capacity compared to modern equivalents, but even two-post lifts could generally hold up to 2.5 tonnes while four-post lifts typically managed over three tonnes. We would expect that a reputable garage would understand the limits of their equipment and not accept bookings that would exceed the safety margin, but a polite enquiry would put your mind at rest.
