VW Scirocco TDi 2009 - Water Pump - Vern C

At what mileage would one expect the water pump to require changing.

Dealer is suggesting we change ours when the cam belt is changed. Car has done approx. 30,000 miles

Depends on the engine so you need to provide the engine code. Some engines drive the water pump with the cam belt and it wise to change it whilst in there. 3 years and 30,000 seems a bit premature. Regards Peter

Well I certainly wouldn't change the water pump at 30,000 miles unless it was problematic. Isn't 30,000 miles a bit early for a cambelt change too?

Perhaps the OP is suggesting the waterpump is changed along with the cambelt when its due ,the fact the car has done 30k at the moment has nothing to do with the dealers suggestions.Thats the way I read it.

2013-2009= 4 years, which according to some dealers is when VWs belts should be changed, but check the service book.

The recommendation in the service book has I think been superceded so it would be better to ask VAG.

Around this time a change was made to use long life belts from Continental but the water pump remained the same unit requiring change much sooner than the cambelt which can now run for many years and many thousands of miles more than the original units.

It may be 4 years old and have done 30,000 miles, I personally wouldn't even be dreaming of having the cambelt let alone the water pump changed anytime soon.

It may have built in late 09 so could only be 3 yeras and 3 months old. Regards Peter

You need to find out which engine you have. The CR engines which this probably has are recomended for a belt change @ 120k or 10 years.
