Just goes to show that the Police do other than stop drivers breaking motoring laws?
To all who refer to the cops as plods - try not to generalise policemen any more than we generalise idiot drivers on this website.
Anyone care to join me in sending a tenner or more to a fund for his wife and three children?

Couldn't agree more. Is there a web link

A very brave man, and a very sad case.

Would just like to join you in paying my respects to a wonderful man, who lived and died for his job. And yes, Matt, it certainly does show that there'smore to being a police offcer than many people seem to think.

There is no doubt whatsover that the death of DC Oake was a tragic affair.

However, may I point out just couple of days before, Ged Walker, a Dog Handler with Nottingham Police died from injured he sustained whilst trying to stop a thief in a stolen car. A 25 yr old man has been charged with his murder and TWOC.

Another Officer doing his duty on behalf of the public but sadly not reported in such depth by the Media or commented by President Bleugh presumeably because of the very little political impact?

In light of DVD's valid comment, rather than a specific cause, isn't there a general Police welfare fund we could contribute to?

Past references to Plod made with full approval of brother (Met Plod Sergeant with 18yrs "plodding" under his belt) but accept that can be construed as dismissive and lacking in respect for what I know to be a generally thankless task.

I shall give him a bell and get the details of the welfare fund (can't remember the correct name for it)

No Dosh,

It used to be called The Widow and Orphans fund I believe.

Agree with all of the above sentiments - especially regarding their bravery and the unnecessary derogatory references which have become almost endemic.

There is no doubt that the Police are required to do a job that few of us would/could do in circumstances that none of us would appreciate - namely constant criticism from without, political correctness from within and cynical, totally counterproductive interference from politicians most of whom have but a fraction of the courage and integrity required to do such a
job !

The only time the politicians support the Police is when it suits their own self interests!
You'll notice that there's not much support evident for the Army until there is a fire strike or war (or both), then the soldiers are suddenly feted (but not rewarded of course)!

Donations are fine, but as DVD stated, many officers are killed in the line of duty and never heard about. DC Oake was tragically one of them and as someone who has lost a spouse very suddenly and been left with 2 small children, believe me I know how awful that feels for those left behind. A much loved partner and parent there one minute, gone the next !

Send donations to DC Oake and others but, better still, also lobby the politicians to stop routinely undermining the Police and start supporting them, appreciating what they do for us.

Ask yourself - would you do that job in these circumstances ? I know I wouldn't !

(that's my last rant today Mark, I promise !)

I couldn't agree more, difficult but it has to be said. Political spin and media control at its best.

Part of the memorial to Stephen Oake should be procedures to ensure that what he was engaged in doing (looking after public safety) will be done in the future with far less risk of repeating such a tragic outcome. Better protection from then word go.

My respects, too, to Ged Walker, and to all others hurt or killed in the line of duty, serving the public.

Well said, matt35.

The Police get the blame for lack of resources and the policies of politicians and judges (not enough jails, so don't jail burglars, etc.).

Regarding the point made by Oz, this incident goes to prove that the US were right in keeping their "POWs" at Guantanamo Bay in chains/boiler-suits. The politically correct bleeding liberals were rightly silenced when the alleged killer of DC Oake was brought to court in simialr fashion! But that did not last long -as they were complaining yesterday about excessive numbers of Police + armed units present at the Finsbury Mosque!

Mark you can zap me and you'll be right to do it BUT

What really sucks is this decent guy doing his job is the victim of dumb wobbly-liberal limp-wristed policies by panty-waist politicians who've never earned a cent in their lives except through gov't grants warming their seats in their airy-fairy iseological discussion salons with their fingers crooked over their cups of Earl Grey while the scum of the earth is cheerfully let into the country, fed and housed and forgiven because after all we must tolerate these chaps' ways even if they seem a bit different.

What is encouraging though is at last some kind of no-s*** approach from the law. Maybe just maybe UK has slowed a little bit on the descent to the laughing stock of Europe.

DC Stephen Oake - Martin Devon
Growler. I'm with you all the way and so are all of my colleagues and 99% of other people I speak to on this subject are of a similar mind. When then is it we are ruled by lily livered Do Gooders. "Don't smack them." "Don't say that." "Don't do this."

Natural selection, law of the jungle, the fittest survive etc. As an island you can't tell me we couldn't be almost self sufficient, 'cause I won't believe it. The UK has had it. I saw it coming 15 years ago when I 'escaped to rural England and since then i've met many others who have done the same thing. A lot of those, many years before I. Nuff said.

Regards.

P.s. My Wife has just had a big op' in hosp'. Lady opposite, poor thing, going slightly senile was always on the brink of falling out of bed. Staff NOT ALLOWED to put safety rails up at side of bed as this would be seen as restraint. Who's guarding the guards??
DC Stephen Oake - Martin Devon
I meant WHY then is it.
DC Stephen Oake - volvoman
Ditto Martin & Growler !

Nothing will change here until the silent majority start making some real noise ! How many people reading this thread agree TOTALLY and happily whinge about the situation but haven't bothered to write to their MP's, the Home Sercretary etc. to convey their thoughts ? It does matter and if enough people do it, it does work !

So either start writing folks:

Westminster,
LONDON,

or be silent (just what the minority pressure groups always rely on) and be prepared for more of the same ! It's your choice.
DC Stephen Oake - Soupytwist
Surely you have the Daily "hate" Mail to do that for you ?

Matthew Kelly
No, not that one.
DC Stephen Oake - volvoman
Wouldn't know MK - I don't read it and find most newspapers a waste of time with their own agenda.

If people feel strongly about this, or any other subject for that matter, they should let their MP's know direct, not rely on others to do it for them. That's what democracy's supposed to be about isn't it ?
DC Stephen Oake - volvoman
Ooops - that should be

c/o

Westminster,

Under the circumstances I'll let Growler's comment stand. But please let's not go any further down that road.

Thank you.

Volvoman,
Last year I had a website called something like 'faxyourmp' who converted your e mails to faxes and faxed the House.
They then followed up to see if you had received a reply.
I asked Simon Burns MP what he thought of the morality of MPs giving themselves a 40% pensions increase - got two replies and still think that they are a crowd of self serving, hypocritical, dyslexic bankers.

Find the site if I can again!

It is faxyourmp.com - enter your postcode to find who is the representative of your interests in the Mother of Parliaments.

Growler, volvoman, etc. - I totally agree.
What astounds me are the friends and colleagues who also agree - why?, because among them many are the hard working immigrants who setttled in Britain 30 or 40 years ago, and they are feeling the backlash. They feel so strongly that they are prepared to vote for the BNP!! - just to stop the world's unwanted "refugees" filling up Britain. Hardly any ethnic Britons now seem to live in London, they all seem to have run away to the far rural Counties.
DC Stephen Oake - volvoman
I know that's true from my own experience MB but nobody should vote for the likes of the BNP ! Also, genuine refugees aren't the problem and any decent society should offer refuge (if only temporary) to these people.
DC Stephen Oake - volvoman
Apologies Mark - didn't see your last note as I scrolled through the list.
