Its an American study and have you ever noticed how large they can be.

They concluded: "Education is needed to improve seat belt use among obese people."

American study so US habits re seatbelts (not worn) and American airbags which, IIRC, are different in form/function to those in Europe.

Probably not much relvance to UK.

50% of UK adults are obese...

Compared to Americans they are thin.

They couldn't even be bothered to provide a link to the article or the journal information so I could look at that.

Well the obese can't have it both ways - they're more likely to live if shot than a regular sized person is. This must balance it out.

Here's the link, but you have to pay to read the full text:

On the other hand the're easier to shoot, presenting a bigger target and probably moving more slowly.......

With a quadruple cheeseburger in one hand and 5pints of coke in the other I think they call it small size.

One wonders if some obese people have some kind of death wise. Either trying to kill themselves by over eating and/or driving or being driven without fitting a seat belt.

Considering the State Pension will probably cease to exist before people my age reach retirement age, dying at 45 with a gorgeous quarter-pounder in hand might be the best way to go.

One day we get told people are living too long, pensions are too expensive and social care will be bankrupt in 10 years.

The next day we get told everyones fat and will die young.

Make your mind up.

No janie

the fatties end up bed blocking the NHS and cost lots more eg type 2 diabetes...

With a free NHS there is no incetive to change...

More fat drivers die in car crashes - Collos25

I live in Germany and believe you me the Health service here is rubbish compared to the UK.

And making them pay after 25 yrs of overeating etc would acheive what?

Rubbish. Omega 3 fatty acid munchers are the drain on the nation's resources. They snactomoniously sniff about everyone else's lifestyles, but leach off other people's pension contributions, don't want to retire later, or take a less generous pension benefits. Nor do they pay sin taxes to contribute to the cost of their geriatric care of which they avail themselves to a disproportionate degree.

You obviously are unaware that 10% of the NHS budget is spent on diabetics..

You obviously are unaware that 10% of the NHS budget is spent on diabetics.

You seem unaware that 40% of the NHS budget is spent on the over 65s-and this fraction is growing rapidly. You have to look at the net cost of an activity, not the gross cost.

People with type 2 diabetes invariably die younger than those who don't have diabetes. Dead people don't need pensions or healthcare. There is an overall cost saving.

On that logic, we should disband the NHS tomorrow.. And kill everyine over 65...

No. But we should must apply logic consistently. If fat people, smokers and drinkers are expected to pay for the cost of their activities, then healthy people should pay for their longevity since they benefit disproportionately. There's a hypocritical logic in perceiving obesity as a "problem" and longevity as a "challenge".

It's American people in American cars. Seatbelt wearing patchy. US airbags are IIRC different to those in Europe.

You can never generalise about the human race. Dr. Atkins (of the Atkins diet) died at 72; my mum, who has been overweight all her life, is 95 not out.

More fat drivers die in car crashes - MikeTorque

Everyone is unique.

During times of illness a person who is overweight can often survive because they have extra energy reserves that help them endure longer compared with a slim person.

Meanwhile back to the original post - it was about a specific piece of research and not about generalisations regarding the human race.
