With 12 brands you would expect them to be at the top, however if they continue with their recent reliability issues then it seems unlikely they will get there.

Yes i feel that Toyota's recent owning up/coming clean on QC issues plus the open apology offered by the CEO was a very shrewd move, they might have been lambasted by certain elements of the media, but in the minds of individual buyers i believe (who are the ones paying not pontificating) grew a renewed trust.

Toyota stands by its products and doesn't treat its customers with contempt, i've had first hand experience of this out of warranty work completed with nothing but good grace.

Compare with the way some other brands behave when they have issues, denial and reluctance to fix their customers products in an honourable way the second warranty expires until so bombarded by reports becoming common knowledge via internet that they have no option.

Now Toyota, sort your models out, drop the idiotic electric parking brake in the Avensis, offer some cooking engines like you did with the Corolla T Sport supercharged almost Q car, and allow easy officially approved access to petrol versions of Hilux in the UK for those of us who prefer LPG, oh and make the Hilux full time 4WD please...that'll do for starters and i'll have the first official 2.7 or 3.4 version with an offical LPG conversion...;)

I for one am glad that Toyota has sorted out a new model for my next car....I think I'll be looking for a GT86 in a couple of years! They have proven their worth to my household - 10 year old Celica is still going strong.

VW probably need to change two things to overtake Toyota.

They need to sell more in America, where Toyota still do very well and they need a Prius rivalling Hybrid. California loves the sodding thing.

Just watching the Detroit motor show and VW have a passat sized battery petrol car to rival the Prius so they must have heard you.

See you people just don't appreciate my magnificence do you?

VAG have gone down the 'clean diesel' route in america, rather than hybrid. Since VW has been considered an off-piste marque in the US, this might give them a USP. Whether they will convince enough buyers to switch fuels remains to be seen.

That said, TDIs account for a large proportion of their US sales, but their volumes are much smaller than toyota's.

They have a massive factory in the states and these Hybrids will be built there for the American market they expect to be the largest Hybrid seller in three years.VAGs words not mine.

Convincing a populace to switch fuel is not an easy job. It was confusing enough here when 4 star was phased out and it's taken decades for the ordinary motorist to trust diesel - though Governmental assault on their wallets have no doubt sped up their conversion.

California loves the Prius for many reasons but one of them is they trust it because they put the same fuel in it they do with anything else.
