Nissan Qashqai - What is acceptable proof of FSH? - gavcradd

Hi, first post, please be kind :-)

I've very recently bought a 59 plate Nissan Qashqai from Arnold Clark, and I'm very pleased with it so far. However, I need a second opinion on the service history.

It was sold as having Full Service History, but when I went to pick it up there was no service book with it. The garage said they'd sort it for me and delivered me a service book a few weeks later. However, the old one had obviously been lost as this is a brand new one.

There's a stamp in there for the most recent service (last month) done by the garage, but no stamps from before this. Instead, there's a print off of an email from another garage listing what they've done to the car and when.

My simple question is - is this all OK? There are no receipts or other evidence, no stamps, etc. My gut feeling is that everything is above board, but will it cause any issues when trying to sell it on later, etc?

I'd be interested in your opinions. Thanks!

IMO the only acceptable, and full, service history is a service record, fully stamped by a Main Dealer for the make of car, AND a full folder of itemised invoices for each service - oil, parts serviced or replaced, wheel balancing etc (al work done) and on a 59 plate at least one MOT.

No one simple answer since different manufacturers have had different views in my recent motoring past.

But I would would not trust a service book to be proof of a full service record. Stamps are easily available on the interweb plus it has been known in tne past for less honest garages to stamp a book for a few beer tokens.

I would want to see itemised invoices, if its been done they must exist.

In our Kia service book it states quite clearly that stamps in the book are not sufficient proof and that invoices must be retained to prove that the correct schedule has been carried out and the correct parts/lubricants used.

Standard AC procedure the car will probably have never been serviced and I doubt if they have actually serviced the car, as above stamps in a book are meaningless without the receipts.

Full service history... doesn't neccessarily meen it's been serviced as required.

If it's never been serviced, its 'full service history' would be no stamps and no reciepts

Ask a Nissan dealer if the vehicle has a service history on their computer ... I am thinking that a log will exist to police the warranty

Hi,

I would take this email and your service book to the garage that sent it. I would then ask them to stamp your service book and backdate it. Hopefully then, all of the blank spaces in your service book will be complete.
