38 psi is very high for 235/45 17, the car must ride like a brick.
Equally 30 psi appears low for a 205/55 16.
Cars we have had on 205/55 16 have been 32 or 33 psi with more in the rears when you are fully loaded. Having said that they were Fords, a BMW and a Kia.
The handbook should give you the pressure if the 205/55 16 is an approved size.
Just done a Google, the 235/45 17 should be 34 psi all round on a 2.0 TDi except the Blumotion which is 36 psi .
On a 2.0 TDi the205/55 16 should be 33 psi all round.
However, if you did have 235 /40 18 they should b3 38psi all round and on a 1.9 TDI 205/55 16 should be 30 psi.
Looks like VW told you wrong and Bridgestone were correct. It alsolooks like you ahve been inflating your summer tyres to high.
