Greetings everyone, as a new member I'm not sure in which forum I should be discussing a problem of vehicle clampers soon to be out on the prowl. Would somebody kindly direct me from this forum.

Here's the dilemma I live on an estate that was previously patrolled by vehicle clampers hired by the city council, once they had gotten rid of the illegal parkers the clampers sites were turned on residents the abuse was unbelievable. In roundabout November legislation was passed to stop them clamping and they could no longer visit the estate, unfortunately I received a letter in the post saying that they are reinstating this company to police the parking area as from 21/01/2012 I fired off a few emails to the City Council asking for consultation with the council prior to the clamping company coming on site to iron out the problems we had with this type of company before including asking about a code of conduct from the said company. To say I've been fobbed off by the council is an understatement, one might issues is thus, the council want to issue us with an A5 document that will have to continually have to remember to place on our dashboards in my email now and previously I asked the council to make this parking permit (a5 document ) smaller in size so that it could be on permanent display I'm coming up against a brick wall as they are not prepared to even discuss this issue, bearing in mind this was abused by the clamping companies when people forgot to put this document on the dashboard, the council's argument to this is that the clamping company should be able to see this document whilst they drive around the parking area.... Hello are they in cahoots with them now surely it's supposed to be about facilitatingt the tenants and not the clamping company any advice would be appreciated.

Clampers are not a lot to laugh about! Are you paying to a motoring club or organisation which can give you legal advice? If so, get them on the case. And get a reporter and photographer from your local newspaper round there; it's the sort of meaty story that a local paper could make a stink about, and they could also sell it on to a national if it's savoury enough. And you know who not to vote for next time.

What are the official parking restrictions in the area concerned - is it public highway, or a private estate? Is it residents only - or is it controlled by single/double yellow lines?

As I see it your best bet is to get a petition to the council about this. Try to get the majority of the estates residents on board and you should be able to get this stopped. Especially if as another poster says if you use the local media.

Best of luck.
