Skoda Octavia - New Octavia revealed - Trilogy

That does look nice. Indeed, as good as the Rapid looks a tad boring. I do think there has been too much cheapskating with the Rapid. Even Seat told them there should be 4 switches on the driver's door to operate all electric windows. Skoda steadfastly ignored Seat. And, apparently the rear seat cushion doesn't lift, so the back rest just flops forward to make a not much of a practical loadspace.

I'd rather have an ex-demo base model Kia C'eed ( a much better looking more modern design than a Rapid) than a new basic Rapid. Skoda calling this model Rapid was a bit like Mitsubishi calling the Carisma, just that. Neither lives up to their name,

Is it me or does it look the same as the last one? Put a taxi light on the roof and it'd blend in fine.

Good to see that they've taken heed of my advice (from earlier in the year) and 'rounded it orf' a little!

Would I buy one?... ...if the VRS comes without its ubiquitous rear-spoiler – perhaps, then again...

Skoda Octavia - New Octavia revealed - Trilogy

RickyBoy, no doubt you could remove the spoiler and replace it with a discreet one.

jamie, Octavia to Skoda is what Golf is to Volkswagen....................gentle evolution. Thank goodness the MK3 Octavia looks a class act, whereas the MK3 Golf looked anything but.

Still not spotted you in 'Bow and Arrow' in your S-Type. You won't spot me in the Octavia because it has gone to car heaven. Still, I kept one of the best parts, one of the most comfortable seats I have ever sat on, to make into an office chair.

That's what they call part time designers these days is it?

Skoda Octavia - New Octavia revealed - RickyBoy

Indeed I could Trilogy, but I'm guessing that my real issue here is with Mrs RickyBoy not wanting (allowing?) me to buy a third Octy! This new one is quite easy on the eye mind and not so much of an 'old-person's motor' (her regular criticism).

I'll have to makes tracks to Goodwood next July and see for myself...

I am intrigued as to what the vRS will look like. Mr Bobbin is thinking of one of these when his Celica dies, but it'll be a long way off yet!

This is the stylish estate version.

Looks the same as the last one to me, which is basically a slightly altered Passat, but hopefully still without the idiot handbrake.

If you think an Octavia estate is a slightly altered Passat, you need an appointment with an optician. :)

Thanks very much for these, Trilogy. That's the first picture I've seen of the estate, which seems to have made a good compromise between looking reasonably stylish and preserving practicality and good rear visibility.

I agree with you about the Rapid: it seems to be the result of the CEO of VW trying to stop Skoda stealing sales from VW (which the Octavia has undoubtedly done). Let's hope this dubious policy hasn't extended to the new Octavia: not many buyers of this size of car want the bargain basement version.

A big improvement.

Looks much better than the latest Jetta which is extremely bland. The interior now looks like a place you'd want to spend time, unlike most current Skodas, the Superb being the exception.

Its not bad looking (the front grille could be better), though not much different externally from the new Rapide. I like the "looks like a saloon but is a hatchback" which blends practicality and styling (I wish Mazda had done the same on my 3 saloon for the boot). To me, the new Octavia is a Rapid Plus - a bit bigger, a bit better quality trim and fittings inside.

Of all the new Golf-platform cars that have been/are due to be released, I still think the new (2013) Seat Leon is the best looking, inside and out (they've finally made the front end look reall good) of them all with lots of plus points generally to recommend it. I still have my doubts over Seat customer care (the garage/ownership experience), as I know people who've had them and not been impressed. Being nearly 15 years owning Japanese cars (with little problems and generally a very good experience) is difficult to wean myself off of.

More importantly it gives the things absolutely cavernous load space without having to buy the "shed on wheels" version. I had a Mk1 Octavia as a fleet car for a while. The sales bloke handling the fleet contract desperately tried to push me a new Golf, but opening the back end of each put paid to his arguments.

Well, that and the fact I could have a 20v Turbo 4x4 Octavia. A bit quick and a real plus in the Czech winter. I still miss that car.

Recently sat in a new Octavia and Rapid. Both have incredibly boring dashboard designs. The Rapid does look very cheap inside. However, the Superb did impress.

I tried an Octavia 2.0 TDI Elegance yesterday: the excellent Jewsons of Oxford had an open day and had managed to get some of the first off the ship.

Very good impressions. The new 148 bhp engine is quieter than the 170 bhp CR I had in my previous vRS, and not much noisier than my current petrol vRS. It's a pity that the new Octavia can't be had with the 1.8 TSI petrol: until the new vRS arrives, the biggest petrol engine available is the 1.4. I'm old-fashioned enough still to prefer big, unstressed engines. Anyway this TDI had plenty of oomph even though it was brand new, and we all know how long diesels take to loosen up.

Good supportive seats in the Elegance, and the steering was much lighter than mine, which I liked but others may not. It may be that the steering weight is adjustable in the 'driving mode selector' mentioned though not explained in the brochure.

I'll wait for the estate, and probably also the vRS as my present one is only 2 years old and showing no signs of wear. One reason not to have a vRS will be if they again insist on fitting 225/40/18 tyres on it - quite useless in snow, and my winter wheels (steel, 16" and tyres (Kleber Quadraxer all-season) are excellent and improve the ride with negligible effect on handling.

Really interested to see your comment re having 16" wheels and tyres both for winter use but also to try to improve the ride.

What profile/width are the 16" tyres (to ensure same rolling circumference/wheel arch clearance etc)?

Skoda Octavia - New Octavia revealed - Avant

They're 205/55/16. I was careful to get the wheels from Skoda to ensure that there would be no problem with fouling the brake mechanism.

One unexpected bonus which i discovered after a puncture is that the space-saver wheel and tyre are the same size - 205/55/16.

I sat in one Saturday.

I liked it.

No idea what else looks like it, nor do I care.

As long as it functions correctly with acceptable comfort and fuel economy and longivity.

Jobs a good un.

Boring huh!

I suspect most drivers are.
