BMW 5 Series E60 - Auto gearbox and other settings instructions - mattie_uk

Hi all

Apologies for noddy question, but does anyone have specs for the auto gearbox on the 520D SE and/or know where I might find an manual on the internet? I've had a look, but the term 'manual' obviously has a particular connotation when searching for things car-related so no luck yet!

Apparently the car came with German manuals, which were summarily binned before I bought it, hence my ignorance. I can obviously understand enough to drive the car, but I'm not sure of some of the nuances - for example, what use the semi-auto setting has (i.e is it linked to other systems like power steering etc), which is engaged by pushing the gear selector to the left.

I'm also keen to hear what the 'DSC' button on the fascia in front of the shifter does (on the same cluster as the heated seat and parking sensor controls - I think it's DSC, will check tonight to make sure), and whether this has any impact on shift patterns or is more to do with traction control through the braking system.

I'm not aware that the car has any adaptive suspension, so keen to hear if there's a 'sporty' way to set the car up. I'm really just hoping to learn more about the car, as there's no suppporting documentation to refer to - thankfully I found I-Drive a doddle, but suspect Ill be back on here with questions when I can't figure out hoew to change a blown bulb!

All comments appreciated - happy to clarify any points.

Gah.

Can you believe I ddin't even think to include the term 'owners'' in my query? Perhaps unsurprisingly, all I got were pages with references to manual gearboxes.

It's been a long week....

DSC is traction control.

In my F11, one short press allows for more wheelspin but ESP will kick in if the commuter thinks you are losing control.

If you hold the button down continually for more than 5 seconds, it gives a beep and you are totally on your own without any commuter assistance.
