Depends what you want - long life, low cost, high grip for sporty driving etc.
My last two cars (Volvo V60 and Mondeo IV) have had Michelin Pilot Premacy as factory fit. I've done 20,000 miles in the Volvo and the fronts still have 5mm of tread ... it's a big, torquey diesel and I do drive briskly. Same with my old Mondeo, the Pilots really do last a long time and give a good ride / handling compromise.
On the Mondeo, I replaced the Pilots with Kumho Ecstas, which were indistinguishable from the Michelins in terms of road noise, ride, handling and braking. However they were £75 each compared with £115 each for the Pilots. £80 a pair is quite a saving.
No idea how long the Kumhos last though, I only did 10K miles on them, but they didn't seem to be wearing out fast.
