Dodge Caliber - Want to Buy - boristheblade
Want to buy Dodge Caliber Diesel
I have read HJ review and looks quite good
I like the chunky look and it's different
I understand the diesel has a VAG engine so seems quite bulletproof
Are there any scary stories I need to be aware of also any vital checks that need to be carried out prior to purchase .
Going to use my Focus C-max in part ex don't want to spend more than £5000
Any advice welcome

Dodge has left the country

Dodge were not a success

There are better cars about so why take the risk?

Try buying spare parts for one.An old saying "a fool and his money are soon parted".

I take it that it's not a good buy

Depending on which VAG 2.0 litre it has under the bonnet - it could be as bulletproof as a paper cup.

If the car's cheap enough (and it should be) why not? A cheap to run roomy practical car, ride/handling etc they're not much to write home about but some people don't care about that.

I like the Caliber but I think you'll be disappointed. It's not as big as it looks - merely a chunky Focus - and drives like a 15 year old Korean car according to a friend who test drove one before buying a Nissan something or other.

My colleague has one and it's a bit of a dog; the best thing is she's so clueless she didn't realise it until she's started talking to others in the office about cars.

They're smaller than they look, unrefined and expensive to fix (if you can get the parts). Two years running she's had different wishbones go, it was about 4 days waiting on replacements and cost a fortune (about £3-400 each) to do.

Only the other week she queried it's current vlaue for insurance purposes and was mortified when I read the figures off Parkers to her!

Step away from these cars, noting to see here.

WOW! They've got wishbone suspension - nice to know they've stpped up from the leaf springs on the Corvette! Authentic 20th century technology...

Corvettes are GM, Dodge is Chrysler.

I know - just a tease to our American friends whose car technology is a bit behind the times!

A generic coil spring is just a cheap, off-the-shelf substitute for a properly engineered traverse leaf spring!

Thanks for the messages about the Dodge Calibre all feedback greatfully received and it is now off my list
