My Vauxhall Corsa has a bad smell of petrol - Boyracer1992

When i start my car up, i get a very strong smell of petrol from around the back of the car, any idea's what the problem is??

There's a leak somewhere!

Do fuel injected petrols have a leakback system like diesels?

I think you need to do some diagnostics. Perhaps with an assistant to start the car while you look for drips.

Given the volatility of petrol I'd get it seen to asap.

Might be more benign. It could be starting on a very rich mixture if the coolant temperature sensor is fouled and has very high resistence. Does the engine hold an elevated idle (~1500RPM) for more than a couple of seconds after start up?

I'm not technical but defo get it checked out, my other half had a fuel leak with his Citroen and it went up in flames around the petrol tank. Not good.

What's the worse thing that can happen to you if you don't get it checked, lets think, death, disfigurement etc. etc.

Why ask the question on a forum when a fuel leak can be such a deadly serious issue.

Beggars belief.
