I get a wooshing noise when changing up on first starting the car.It disappears after a short distance. Is this the start of a problem?

A sound like an owl or a Police siren behind you is usually the sign of a turbo starting to fail. The turbo on the Golf 5 with a BKC type code engine is extremely prone to sudden catastrophic failure.

Thanks for this.I would not say it sounded like an owl more a breathless woosh.Never lasts long and goes away quickly.Have been contemplating getting rid but reluctant as it has less than 40K on it and the 1.9 engine has been totally reliable as indeed has the rest of the car.

I too would say turbo pipe after turbocharger.

Between turbocharger>intercoolers>inlet maniold.
