After 120,000 miles the drivers seat in my 520 is giving up, there is a lack of lower back support, and the middle of the upright part of the seat from neck to waist provides minimal support. You feel like your shoulders are being squeezed forwards and together !
I'm told all seats do this after a long service. Can't afford to have the seat rebuilt, so wondered whether anyone has similar experiences and suggestions - besides strategically placed cushions.
I was told about seat beads, does anyone have a view on these?
Cheers

Scrappy is probably the best direction. If your seats are electric you might have to settle for less

eBay.

There's a complete set of 5-series seats going on there for the E60/E61 cars for 160 quid right now. This sort of thing comes up quite regularly.

Thanks, what the 'E' number for a 2004 BMW?

E39. Try FAB recycling (BMW breakers) for a set of seats. You could get sport versions - very supportive with a pull out section at the front for extra under knee support. They will sell you a drivers seat but you will get a better deal for a pair of front seats or a whole set.

If FAB doesn't have any then a BMW breaker somewhere in the country will have what you need. Try Ebay as well.

I found bead seats useless. The problem is that they raise you higher in the seat and provide no extra support. About the only thing they do is provide extra ventilation on a hot day, but I found them odd to sit on.

Lumbar supports are usually too thick to work on a car seat. You only need a very small amount of padding to bring out the seat and support the small of your back.

The best thing is a well designed car seat :)

Apologies, that's E60, ignore the above !

Super helpful, thanks. Had a look under my seats today and apart from some awkward tight spaces seems like replacement should be straightforward.
