Hey all,

I am after opinions on this motor please:

http://www.sgpetch.co.uk/darlington/used-cars/detail/regno=NU61HRW/id=243?page=6

It ticks all the boxes for me, colour (grey or black), newer than a 60 plate with less than 20k miles.
i have been looking for about a month now and have put in offers on Mazda approved, and all i have been given is £500 off then shown the door - those cars have now been sold (removed from Autotrader and Mazda websites).

I put in an offer of £11k on a £12k one - i haven't even had a reply to that.

The Mondeo i looked at they would rather see it rust than sell it to me for £500 less; they have offered me £300 off and told me to do one!
My concern is i have been looking at Mazda Approved - this one isn't.
I am hoping to get the car for £14k. So, do you think a 61 plate Mazda 6 TS2 with 8k miles on it, non-approved, is worth £14k?

Only buy it if you believe Mazda now know how to build a diesel which doesn't destroy itself.

There have been several horror stories of Mazda diesels on here in the past year or so: it may be that the newer engines don't have the same self-destruct problem as older ones.

Unless your mileage is very high, go for a petrol Mazda 6 - they have many admirers and arre probably cheaper too.

But Mazda make thousands of cars with diesel engines and just like every other manufacturer a very small number go wrong I bet the percentage is no different to that of VW or DB.

Mazda did themselves no favours by failing to look after their customers with seriously failed Diesels, they are not the only maker in my not-on-your-nelly list due to not standing by their product or their customer.

All manufacturers get it wrong now and again, its not the fact that mistakes have been made its how the company puts things right...or doesn't...that counts.

Toyota stand head and shoulders above almost all others in this respect.

I'm a bit surprised at the concerns expressed about the reliability of Mazda diesel engines,I have worked in the truck service industry for nearly fifty years and appreciate problems can occurr with any engine. My son in law has owned 3 Mazda 6 diesels doing about 30000 miles a year without any problems whatsoever, I own a Mazda 6 2.0 petrol which is a fantastic car and returns up to 45 mpg on a run,I have also owned an MX5 for the last 8 years and this has been completely reliable. Servicing and good quality oil is a must with modern engines, this may be the reason we have had few if any problems.

I've not had a diesel but I'm on my second Mazda (6 then MX-5) - no issues at all. Love them. I am 'outside' all of the dealership stuff since I buy used vehicles.

I could be wrong about this, but weren't the problems with "Mazda" diesels actually those sourced from a Ford-PSA joint ventue whilst Mazda was (mostly at least) owned by Ford. Not sure now about their current crop of diesel engines (especially the 1.6 - 2.0 ltr ones, likely to be newer variants of the original "bad" ones) though.

Glad I chose a 1.6 petrol for my Mazda3 instead of a diesel (I was tempted at the time) back in 2006 - many horror stories which will make Mazda's reputation for reliable cars suffer.
