Any - Cleaing the inside of a windscreen - paulas99

Hi

Can anyone recommend a product that will clean a windscreen without leaving smears please? (Also, do I need a particular type of cloth.)

Regards

Paul

I use a chamois leather. It even deals with the results of anyone smoking in the car.

I use Mr Sheen window cleaner stuff (on my wife's recommendation) and it works really well.

I just use a household window cleaning spray containing vinegar.

When you clean the windows make sure you do it in the shade or on an overcast day. Full sun will make the cleaner dry too quickly and cause smears. The same goes for cleaning car bodywork.

I suggest a proprietary window cleaner (probably under your sink) and importantly-a good quality clean microfibre cloth. I've used the chamois method but always ended up with smears in low sun.

Max.

Best stuff for windows and house windows is to nip into Lidl and assuming they have some, not always, they sell about 500ml bottles of 1:100 screenwash, it comes in green (apple scent) and yellow (lemon) and usually with the car stuff, it isn't washer anti freeze, its meant exactly for this purpose, though they suggest to put a capful in your sreenwash as detergent, it does also either by paleful or spray bottle make the most effective glass cleaner i have ever used.

When its in stock i usualy get a few bottles, about a pound apiece IIRC.

I've some of that stuff in the garage and my washer bottles GB.

SWMBO's response to me using the washers is not repeatable here!

It works wonderfully. Clears the ole nasal passages a treat!

I'll tell her it's supposed to be 'apple'.

It's more expensive but I think Autoglym Fast Glass is good aswell. It cleans any marks off easily inside and out.

Some of you may wish to know that SWMBO has morphed into LHG (Long Haired General)!

Best glass cleaner by my reckoning - for car or home - is hot water, a tiny squeeze of wash up liquid, and a good dollop of malt vinegar (clear or brown doesnt matter). Wash it on with either a sponge or a microfibre cloth, squeegee it off. I have not found anything better.

Do the wiper blades at same time (ie assuming you are cleaning car windows .....

I use that stuff and it's very good, but don't do it on a very hot day (and I do mean that it's sweltering in the car) because it evaporates too fast and leaves funny marks. Looks like someone's sneezed...

I use Nilglass. From the internet it seems some of the car valeting trade do too.

for the outside normal toothpaste is good for cutting away the road film and preventing that dangerous smearing

Yup-Used it for years-it's the best yet used with a microfibre cloth-nothing better, inside and outside- mirrors as well.

Unrelated to windows, but another product I've discovered is smartgel, my dad got it off the internet and gave me some, it's an ultra wet shine for trims and tires. I've only used it on the outside but it is very easy to put on and wipe off, it cleans and gives a good finish, it's supposed to act as a barrier against the weather etc. It looks good, time will tell how long it lasts.
