VW Golf 1.4TSI DSG 2010 - VW Golf 1,4TSI DSG with a dodgy Cat - fed up Katie

My car has just done just over 31k and has a full VW service history. It started playing up at weekend when it lost power. It was still drivable but was not changing up properly and not kicking back. You could get up to 5.5K revs in 2nd gear. After a couple of days rest it sorted itself but starting acting up again after 50 miles (we were away for the weekend). I drove it today and the EWL for a Catalytic Converter fault came on and the car is currently with my local dealer waiting to be seen. When it lost power it was almost like driving it in a 'safe mood', and really as though we were limping home. Today when I drove it to the garage it was forgetting to change down at roundabouts - which was very strange and before the light came on it was almost as though it was changing up too quickly.

The garage can't give me a courtesy car and I don't expect to see it this side of the weekend. Very fed up.

Not the service one expects from a "If only everything was reliable as " Golf. Has the garage no demonstrator they could lend you for the weekend?

I haven't actually asked about a demonstrator, after 2 calls to them today I found out that they are trying to get my car into the workshop today and that I can possibly have a courtesy car on Saturday if mine isn't back. If I do, it will be a manual though and I can only drive short distances in them as I have a dodgy left leg. I have the only 5 door car in our house, the only automatic and the only one with a dog guard. Yes, I thought Golfs were reliable. Ironic as I replaced a very unreliable 4 year Peuguot with a 9 month Golf and thought all my problems would be over. I think I am jinxed. The very best I can hope for on my own car is to see it sometime on Friday - that is workshop today, parts tomorrow, fixed for Friday . Fingers crossed.

I hope your car is fixed for the weekend.

My trusted independent advised me a few years ago that for reliability Japanese cars (Toyota/Honda etc) were likely to be better than most European makes.

Not that it helps, but in my experience the emissions light comes on for virtually all misfires and does not necessarily indicate a cat fault.

The engine management light is normally more serious. I would expect this to be on as well if you are going into limp mode.
