Hyundai Terracan diesel manual 2005. - Terracan front wipers intermittently slow. - Craigh

Front wipers were intermittently sluggish, but now are hardly working. Changed the wiper blades and cleaned the screen.

Checked the fuse and opened the cover where the motor transferes to the wiper axle, very greasy so cleaned the electrical pick ups (x3), Still very bad, almost stopped, and sometimes requires manual help to return the wipers to stop position. The motor clicks when trying to return the wipers to the stop position, almost like an overload.

Could it be something as simple as the bearings where the wiper blades fit onto the spline?

Just had a bad experience with the Hyundai dealer over a new ignition key (£260) so don't really want to take it to them

Any ideas are welcome?

Regards

First thing to do is disconnect the wiper linkage as close to the motor as possible, then run it and see, that should tell you if you the problem is motor or linkage seizure, then go from there, you can always (carefully) grip the linkage at the motor end when disconnected to simulate the wiper load and feel where the sticking happens.

My lads Coupe some years ago suffered with wiper parking problems, a good sparky we use (who doesn't just fit new) stripped the motor out, cleaned all the contacts up from excess grease and muck and the wipers ran happily for the rest of his ownership, IIRC it was primarily poor contact surface round the outside of the gear set caused by muck.

Gordonbennet......Thanks for the info, will try tomorrow. Just tried removing the motor but a single nut behind the bulkhead connects the motor to the linkage and this can't be accessed without removing the wipers, plastic covers etc. Plus the wife has to get to work!

Just hope it doesen't rain....I have disconnected the power feed to the motor so it doesen't overload, so if it does rain it's taxi time!
