The 1.6 is underpowered. It may have had the wossanames thrashed off it and be knackered at that age, especially as none of its previous owners were planning to keep it any length of time. Listen for a rattly top end on cold start and walk if it has one. Also ensure that the timing belt has been replaced recently along with its pulleys and that that included the water pump as it's not a cheap job to have done.
No corrosion issues. Mechanically bulletproof, with the exception of gearboxes which die like flies. Check that the box finds all the gears smoothly with no balking or syncro problems and that there are no nasty noises from it. Getting at the box requires dropping the subframe, so this is another walk away issue. Odd noises from the suspension are almost invariably the antirollbar drop links and trivial to fix.
