Nissan Micra 1.0 1999 - Power steering belt perished. - Michael 432000

Hi everyone!

I have just viewed a 1999 T registration 1.0 litre Nissan Micra Inspiration that has 55000 on the clock and I am considering for purchase.

MOT advisory from March this year states: 001 Power steering belt perished.

Does this need to be done urgently?

I’ve ‘goggled’ it and apparently there is no tensioner and it can be a pain to replace.

How much for the belt and would I be able to do it myself, hopefully I have enough mechanical ability to undertake a small to medium degree of difficulty job.

How do you know the tension is ok?

Or how much would it cost for a garage to do it?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Grateful for any replies.

I don't know the particular car but drive belts are normally near the bottom of the league for difficulty. There must be some means of tensioning it or it would fall off when it stretches. The main difficulty on most modern cars is access. If you are intending to buy this type of car you would do well to invest in a Haynes manual, you will recoup its cost on the first job you do.
