Vauxhall Vivaro - Re-conditioned engines on 2nd hand vans - wary? - JP.C

I've on the hunt for a decent Vivaro/Trafic/Primastar panel van with under 100k on the clock and have found a suitable '05 vivaro at a small 2nd hand dealer which looks great, however the engine was completely replaced at 60k and it's now done a further 60k again. From the dealers point of view that's only 60k on the engine but not having any experience with vans should one be wary when one of these engines have been replaced/reconditioned or is it a plus point as long as the rest of the van is in good nic?

massive thanks in advance for any help.

James

Years ago it might be a plus, but as modern engines can do 100,000 miles easily with just routine servicing I would see it as a possible sign of abuse or neglect.

Was the replacement engine a brand new engine, a remanufactured engine or a reconditioned one?

A new engine is obviously a brand new engine supplied by the manufacturer.

A remanufactured engine is an old engine rebuilt with all new internals (i.e. new pistons but old engine block) to a British Standard (BS AU 257:2002).

There is no legal definition of a reconditioned engine so a 300k mile example pulled out of a write-off and installed without any inspection of its condition can be described as "reconditioned".
