hi

the best way to do rear brakes if you hav'nt done them before is 1st the obvious and remove the wheel then to remove the drum make sure hand brake is off i'm unsure as to wether the hub is part of the drum itself on these so if it is you will have to access the hub nut in the center of the hub and undo it (24mm socket) and remove drum or if drum is seperate simply check for 1 or 2 securing screws if none present then simply tap around the drum with a small hammer and pull at the drum after 5 or 10 taps it should come away from hub if not keep tapping it will aventually come away

then get a camera and take 2 or 3 good photos of the set up inside

then its just a case of removing springs twist clips and hand brake cable these are all simple to remove

then to install new shoes just repeat process in reverse reffering to camera pics to see where the various springs and clips go back and im sure these brakes are self adjusting so once you have fitted new parts and the drums are back in place pull hand brake up and release 4 to 5 times and hand brake should be adjusted

when replacing the drum if you have to remove hub tighten the center nut until it nips then back it off half a turn then fit the locking cap and split pin

hope this helps

kind regards Neil

Early Focii recommended you removed the drum by undoing the back-plate fixings to avoid disturbing the wheel bearing. Does that not still apply?

Not that it did mine any harm when I removed the washer that was gouging a groove into the drum. I'd bought it from a main dealer and found I couldn't reach the fixings by the recommended method due to ABS.
