been to look at a rover 75 today owner said the abs light came on last week, dosent seem to affect the car its on constant its an 03 any help welcome.
Abs light on is an mot fail.Does not affect the running of the car ,but could be an expensive fix.hth
Try testing the front wheel sensors first: starting with the passenger side one .
Resistance measured with a mmultimeter (with sensor disconnected) should be c 1.4-2 KOhms.
Zero = a short and infinite = broken wire.
I don't know the car but fitting a new front sensor is usually easy.
The abs system on these is fitted with active speed sensors. They are electronic not inductive ,so cannot be tested for resistance.hth

I have had a look and the insulation on the wire is worn through. So hopefully the reason :-) I can't get to repair it at the moment (knackered back). My question is , is it dangerous to use the car ?

Common issue for ABS faults on Rover 75 can be cause by water in the loom by the ABS unit under battery. They rot out badly and can be a real mess.
On an auto the secondary butterfly flap control siezes in the manifold causing an electronic switch to stay open triggering an ABS fault.
Thanks for the info,
Unfortunately I am not in a position do the necessary repairs at the moment.
would you consider it safe to use the vehicle
ie, does the ABS function 'just' shut down when the light is on ?
will the braking be normal , just no ABS ?
Thanks
Normal braking with no abs function.Plenty of cars out there with no abs system fitted.hth
Thanks for that, much appreciated.
