Citroen C1 4 Year Lease - Deals? - Problem_Polo :-/

Evening All,

I've just stumbled over what appears to be a decent offer from Citroen, a C1 for £99 per month on a 4 year lease, with the first years' insurance chucked in for free. Being a 20-something driver and thus fair game for stupid insurance premiums (despite a clean license and history), that's not a bad deal at all. I'm curious though as to whether it would be the done thing to try for further bargaining when going for a lease rather than purchase? Do the delaers still work on units and targets or are they not fussed about how many of these they bang out? In particular, the initial rental is about £1,700 so the obvious approach would seem to be going for some movment there, maybe a coupleof hundred quid off or even a P/X?! Any thoughts folks?!

It isn't a decent offer.

£99*48 months = 4752 + 1700 = 6452 to get to a point of having to pay another couple of thousand to keep it.

Alternatively you can have a brand new Pug 107 Access for £6726 and own it once it is paid for.

Hi polo ,
The only way to consider the viability of a deal like this is to total the whole transaction .
£1700 deposit +£99 a month .Total £6450 .

Deduct the cost of a years free insurance £?

Total cost of £4 years ownership £5000 ?

If the transactions a true lease ,vat will be added to monthly payments .£960 over 4 years .in addition mileage is usually restricted to 10'000 pa .The car will also have to be in good condition when you return it to the leasing company .They will charge for anything except minor wear and tare .

I'm guessing that the car will be returned to the leasing company at the end of the agreement .With nothing returned to you.

The only way to compare ,is to see how much the total cost of buying ,rather than leasing works out ,

How much can you buy a new or nearly new equivalent car for .Using your £1700 deposit ,what will the total cost be over 4 years .remember at the end of 4 years you will own the car ,it's value will probably be enough to provide a deposit for your next car .

Going back to your original question ,by all means ask for a discount as well as the lease deal ,try for £500 .however the dealer may be subsidising the transaction ,so that may not be possible .

Good luck and do let the forum know how you get on .

Thanks both for the replies, I must conceed that it does lose some appeal when you work out the whole cost :-/ Having read the small print I was totally put off when I realised there is mention of both the £1700 'deposit' and an 'initial renatal' which is about £2500. If both of thise are payable then this is sadly just as much a rip off as Pug's 'Just add fuel' which I wouldn never consider signing up to. Ho hum...
