I Think your 1.8 may have the butterfly valves in the inlet manifold & they are prone to breaking , iether leaking air, sealing of the cyliner or worse, being digested by the engine ! goog buy engine. make sure your manifold is OK !

I would check this & for servo air leaks, & wiring loom for injectors, I have had several mondy looms rub though where they are wrapped.
