ford focus estate - need bigger car with good mpg under £4000 - flintk1985

I currently have a ford focus estate 1.6 petrol, which handles like a bag of ****. I want a car that i can fit, 3 kids car seats, 2 dobermans and a large pram in.For under £4000, possibly diesel??? And that handles nicely (i owned an alfa 156 before the ford, so was spoilt in terms of handling). Any suggestions, i dont want ford again. No renaults as they leak like sieves, known from personal experience. Other makes i dont like, peaugeot, rover, kia, hyundai, skoda (it is still a skoda no matter how pretty they make it look), i think that might be it. Any ideas?
