think it's more to do with a large section of the GBP, brainwashed by years of left / liberal / socialist propaganda, having a downer on any business that seems to do extra-ordinary well.
I do love how everything on these forums comes back to 'lefty brainwashing.' Total nonsense but its good fun to read. There seems to be this sense that the Tory-right is the only legitimate way to view something and people are 'brainwashed' if they don't agree with you. Interesting.
For example a local (to me) news forum has just had a person posting criticisim of the govt for giving grants to Bentley on the grounds that they make cars for "the rich". The same person a few weeks ago criticised the govt for not doing enoough to safeguard jobs at Vauxhall Ellesmere Port
The chap has a fair point tbh. Why should our Government full of posh shiny rich kids be giving grants to a German luxury car brand which reported record sales this year while failing to safeguard British manufacturing jobs? I'm not a Vauxhall fan but if our Government's going to put money anywhere in the motor industry it should be to keep Vauxhall factories open in the UK.
It would be difficult for Tesco to build anywhere that could be considered NOT well served by another supermarket, given the geographical spread of the UK urban population.
Usually the complaints against Tesco occur when they pitch up in a village served by small independent shops because everybody knows when Tesco moves in those small businesses will suffer. Its a major shame in many ways because I like unique high streets with small family run business, I dont like going everywhere and everything looks the same with universal uniformity like in China. But the brutal fact is Tesco can sell things for less than the local butcher can buy them for and thats why their outlets never struggle to sell things irrespective of public feeling prior to the opening.
I used to work for Asda. Policy is to take on existing stores if possible; for example they moved into a good number of old Gateway shops. Saves them money - why build a new one?
Perfectly fair policy and it makes sense. I prefer Asda to Tesco personally because Tesco isn't actually as good value for money as people assume. There's plenty of empty shops up and down the country so it makes little sense to build new ones.
