I wonder if someone can help or has come across a similar problem.

The steering on my girlfriends Focus ST170 is very vague. The wishbones were replaced a few months ago but not connected to this problem and so I assumed it was the track rod ends and have just replace those. However this has not solved the problem.

I have to assume it is the steering rack now but before starting what is to me, a major job or giving it to someone more qualified to do I thought I would ask for any advice on what else it could be.

Could there be play between the steering wheel and rack?

Is it a job I should start from under the vehicle while on stands?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated, thanks for taking the time to read.
