And i dont mean in a premium rate phone number sort of way.

With this recent weather, ending up with a filthy car is unavoidable. Seeing the Jag in daylight today shows how terrible it is.

Awful, really.

Time you washed it! :) You could do it tonight instead of coming on here. There you are, an evening off from the Forum. A shame you can't post a photo.

It was three months worth of winter road filth but I took it to the Romanian hand car washing place on Saturday morning. Lookd great till Sunday and again this morning. Yuk!

75miles a day round trip on the A12 plus I did about 120 miles on Sunday...needs cleaning again.

But even when the rest is yukky I do keep the lights, number plate and windows /wiper blades clean. So thats not so bad is it.

Look upon it as a further layer of protection because nobody, except perhaps your wife, will give it a second glance.

Once upon a time I used to spray my cars with Waxoyl in winter and clean off the gunge when spring came. A fat lot of use it was with the rot boxes of the old days.

In a word, it's minging! Needs a good clean inside and out, maybe the weekend if I get a chance and it's dry.

My car's always dirty on the outside, however the interior (the bit I look at) is always pretty clean & uncluttered.

It usually only gets washed when it gets serviced by the dealer :-/

I keep the exterior of my car as filthy as possible. It adds to the 'no insurance' look which I find very useful when these's a dispute over ROW. ;-)

How filthy is your car? - Bobbin Threadbare

Mine is now spotless as I spent this aft washing all the grit, salt and gack off the exterior and tidying and Auto-Glym-ing the interior. Having said 'tidying' I meant I threw away a receipt for petrol and a car park ticket. I don't like to keep anything but tools and CDs in my car.

It looks blue again instead of grey with speckles of salt. I have been in Liverpool so I left the alloys dirty.

Washed it on Friday afternoon after working since 4am! Wanted to get all the salt off the underside.

I have a proper filthy girl a short car journey away. Not as catchy but do I care?
How filthy is your car? - madf

My car is immaculate. Every time I use it, I leave it in the yard, hose down the underneath to remove the salt and wash and dry it. I then vacuum the interior and wax polish the exterior and clean all interior glass.

Then I drive it into the garage, switch on the demhumidifier and leave it to dry properly.

That's how a proper gentleman treats his car - when his chauffeur has her day off. Otherwise she does it..

Yes, my car is certainly 'also available in white'. I've been up the A12 today, to Colchester, and for some reason Essex is filthier than anywhere else. Fortunately the screenwash reservoir seems to be huge.

for some reason Essex is filthier than anywhere else.

I can personally vouch for that in more ways than one.

Very dirty but its MOT is due soon so I'll probably clean it beforehand.

My first company car, way back in 1970 when working for Marley. They had vehicle inspectors would visited each company car at least twice a year. God help you if the car was dirty outside or in. Their policy was, if you keep it tidy; you drove it with consideration. Also, the car got better treatment when serviced, as the mechanic would think the car had a responsible owner so no short cuts on this vehicle. It seemed to work. Paid off too and probably saved me from a crash. Two days after a major service the inspector arrived. Not just a cursory check, overalls on, full inspection and underneath too. He found a potentially disasterous brake fault. He immediately telephoned the local Ford servicing dealer. I don't know what he said but they arrived with a tow truck within the hour. Much grovelling being done. I was treated like a movie star, the garage manager turned up, full of apologies, gave me his Granada to use while repairs were done, mine was only an Escort, what a turn up. It turned out Marley was running about 200 Ford cars at the time, all dealer serviced, therefore quite a bit of leverage. My car was then cleaned inside and out every time it was serviced. This was long before the 'have a nice day' business started. I had the Granada for a full week, during which time I dated every girl I knew. If that car could speak! Happy days. Cheers Concrete

They dont make cars with as much room in the back as the Granada anymore.

I would like to announce that my car...is clean!!! Took me four hours today with a hose, sponge, zip wax and all other goodies!!

I have also realised my car is quite large. Halfway round with the cloth i was muttering about how a smart car would be lovely.

Whatever happened to that attitude?

One of work vans went in recently for a service. The records showed the previous was in 2008.

Either this happened at least 2 years later as the Granada wasn't launched until '72, or you was lent a MKIV Zephyr which woudn't have pulled any birds !

Hello andyp, I worked for Marley until 1976 and enjoyed quite a few Ford cars. It was definitely a Granada he lent to me. Sorry if the detail spoils the story for you. Please allow some license for an older motorist. Cheers Concrete

I was hacking back and forth along the autobahns in the sleet, drizzle and salt for the last couple of weeks. At one point I had to wipe the door mirrors and windows with some tissue in a garage 'cos they'd become opaque(!) You can imagine what the rest of it looked like.

Yesterday morning it went through the whirly brush wash and became clean again. Yesterday afternoon I was told to go back to Germany today........can't win......

A clean car will be more likely to pass it's MOT.

Mine has dirt in the necessary places.

Over here, a dirty car is turned away with a fail. Government agency does the MOT in N. Ireland, and they take no s*** with dirty motors. £6 MOT wash, or £20 retest fee, simple maths. :)

How filthy is your car? - Bobbin Threadbare

A friend of mine used to leave muck on her car anywhere the MOTers were likely to give her an advisory on, like the windscreen.

How filthy is your car? - jamie745

I thought the 'dirty car has less chance of passing MOT' thing was just a myth. Whether the paintwork is clean or not has no relevance to the condition of the car. The last time i looked, polished paintwork wasnt an MOT requirement.
