Ford Fiesta - Starting problems - Man without a plan

Morning all,

I have a 2007 '57 reg Ford Fiesta 1.4 (petrol) Zetec. had it since brand new and had it serviced every year by main dealers.

After using the car to get home from work on Friday night, it has sat on the drive all weekend and come to start it this morning and it wouldn't start.

It was turning over fine but just wouldn't quite catch. On the third try it sounded like it was getting better and a couple of pumps of the accelerator (not sure if that does anything) and it started with a HUGE cloud of black smoke out the back.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this, what the problem might be / have been, if there is anything I can do to stop it happening again etc.

Thanks

Moved to Technical.

Sounds as if petiol wasn't getting through initially. See if it happens again and if it does, the fuel feed will be worth checking.

Hi folks,

This problem seemed to clear itself after the initial symptoms and a blast up the motorway...

However as a follow on, the wife is reporting that today whilst driving at 55mph the revometer was up at 4,000 prm and she could smell burning...

She said she dropped down a gear and back up again and seemed to solve the problem temporarily but she was at work then so doesn't know what happened...

Anyone got any thoughts?

I bloomin hate cars when they start doing things like this to me, probably because I have no mechanical knowledge at all and i'm always worried something is going to blow up or be a £0000's repair bill....

Could she have been in the wrong gear. Do not ask her, take the car out and see what gear you need to be in to get 4000 rpm and 55 mph. Regards Peter

Don't mention it to her or it's dinner in the dog and your sleeping in the kennel. Regards Peter
