Ford Focus - Rejecting a Used Car - do I stand a chance? - WBDriver

I've been doing a lot of reading on the subject and am getting quite despondant!

I bought a 10 month old focus from a ford dealer In November 2011. Within 2 weeks the engine warning light came on - to cut short a very long story, I've had the AA out twice and the car has been in to the dealers 6 times in 2 months. It is suffering from a slight misfire too, but none of their drivers have found this.

They initially replaced the sensor, then another, then the ignition pack. They have since been at a total loss to find a fault.

I am now dealing with the sales manager at the dealership and the car is in the garage for its second day (this time!) and nobody can find a fault.

From what I've read the rejection process is very long and expensive and includes me not driving the car once I've written a letter of rejection. Is this process merely for cars which are completely undrivable? I'm not sure where to go from here?

Any help,much appreciated.

Hi wb.
It used to be that the manufacturer ,ford in this case ,employed specialist technical staff to sort out problems that individual dealerships couldn't resolve.

I would go back to the dealership and see if that's an option .

Failing that tell the dealership that the car is not fit for purpose , and that prior to resolving the problem through the courts ,you want the full value you paid for the car,in part exchange against a similar car on their forecourt.

That would be a more attractive proposition to the dealer than refunding your money.something they will resist. It will also make the problem easier to resolve for you.

Please let the forum know the outcome.

Thanks Tony, that's really useful advice. I gave up on the service dept when they failed to diagnose after the 5th visit. I am now dealing with the dealership, although this means that the car is now in the garage for the 6th time.

Since writing I've had a call from them and they're fairly confident they've diagnosed the problem (again!). Apparently, the throttle body needs replacing. So, I'm living in hope that they're gonig to fix it this time.

Otherwise, I'll definitely be following your advice re what to say to the dealership.

Thanks

sorry to disppoint you but if you look at the technical forum on Honest John you will find a thread on Focus Throttle bodies it has 54 replies

I had my throttle body relaced last week for almost £400 but like most others I also had to have the PCM module replaced these according to the replies on Honest John cost 500 to 1500 pounds

Oh and your car will be off the road for a week as well
